I was recently booked to document a Christening that I was recommended for by a previous client for a little lady at St Demetrios Church in London. Being a Greek Cypriot myself I was surprised that I have never been to this church previously for a function or to photograph an event prior to this occasion? Where have I been???
St Demetrios is a beautiful church and impressive. It has a good amount of light and is not to dark inside.
The priest in charge of the parish is Fr. John Hookway and he is assisted by Fr. Evangelos Liassi.
The Christening started later than expected due to typical London traffic on a Saturday afternoon and a big match at Tottenham but everyone made it and the Priests were very accommodating. I think they may have been spurs fans!
I had 5 minutes to take some shots of the Christening gown and some other details, normally 15 minutes is ideal to display the items and shoot them but time was short so I sneakily had to get the job done while everything was being placed on arrival. Just look how cute those little shoes are!
The Ceremony started with both parents looking on with heaps of pride, and who wouldn’t on such a special event!
The Priests were very helpful allowing me to roam freely in order to get the shots that I needed and I honestly can’t tell you as a Photographer how much easier this helps with nailing the important moments. It’s always a good idea to be respectful to the Priests and arrive early and build good rapport. By taking time to get to know them i also found out that Father Evangelos Liassi was a very keen photographer himself and only agreed to let me have so much freedom if I was a Canon shooter and not a Nikon one, lucky for me I was!
It was time to prepare for the Baptism so we moved over to the preparation area where YiaYia (Gran) and Great Gran (I actually don’t know the Greek word for great Yiayia) helped to dress Demetra and help Michael the Godfather get ready for this special moment.
Below are images of the Baptism. It’s a bonus when a baby is so relaxed and settled. Nothing fazed her and only a little tear was shed once she was taken out and placed in the towel towards the end.
The first part of the Baptism could not have been any smoother and the time had come to put the Christening gown on and continue through to the final part of the ceremony.
It was an emotional and proud end to the ceremony for both parents. Michael done a fantastic job throughout and again I can not praise enough the Priests Fr. John Hookway and Fr. Evangelos Liassi.
We took some group photo’s at the end and moved on to the party!
The party was held in the function room at the Laura Trott leisure centre the food and drink was excellent and everyone had a great time celebrating the Christening.
The cake was awesome and it must of taken a long time to make looking at the amount of detail and effort that went in to it. The cupcakes were a nice touch as well as the sweets for the kids.
I met some wonderful people along the way and everyone was warm and welcoming. In the Slideshow the music was performed by Demetra’s Godfather Michael Angeli please have a look at his Youtube channel, He’s a very talented artist. You can view the Slideshow among others and if you would like to book my photography services please contact me via the website.
Demetra’s Christening was beautiful, Such a happy baby and took everything in her stride as did her lovely parents Michelle, Demetri and Michael. St Demetrios Church is a great church for a Christening and the Priests were fantastic throughout the entire ceremony.
I wish you all the best of luck and thank you for allowing me to be part of your special day and capturing your special moments.
